Flying Squirrels In Home
When flying squirrels are inside of a home or cabin, the noises often sound like running, chewing, scratching, and rolling of nuts/ acorns. Often described to us by clients as “miniature bowling “ in the ceiling and vaulted areas. This is due to the flying squirrel often playing with the food or rolling it to the food cache areas. Often times clients will hear a loud thud on the roof of the structure followed by a quick scampered running into the attic space. This is usually when the flying squirrel leaps from a nearby tree and glides downward to the roof or siding of the structure, grabs hold, then proceeds to run into one of the gaps in the cabin/ house.
Sealing of these open gaps and areas on structures is the best way to keep out unwanted flying squirrels and other visitors.
Utilizing metal is definitely the best option.
Bigfoot Wildlife Solutions performs Wildlife exclusion services to get the flying squirrels out of cabins / houses and keep them out.
Some areas can have one way devices temporarily installed after performing full exclusion services on the property. Others can be trapped with a box/ cage trapping program.
Depending on the species (northern or southern flying squirrel), and the region of mountains/ state the property is located in, (Georgia has different regulations than North Carolina). These methods also depend on the structure. Harder to reach and maintain areas will be treated differently than others.
Performing flying squirrel exclusion work on cabins and mountain houses is a specialized trade that we have perfected over the years.
Metal , mortar, and premium sealants are utilized on every exclusion job.
